戦争という時代と酒好きの父親という家庭の事情で武術を始めた。酒を飲むと暴れる父親を沈めるには武術が必要だった。実家は魚河岸問屋だったため、刃物が多くあり、その危険から身を守るために必要にせまられた。そのおかげで、度胸と危険の予測ができるようになった。戦後、ボクシング、柔道、サッカーなど色々なスポーツをし、外国人にも柔道を教えていたが、本物の古武道
を覚えたいと思い、実戦武術家の高松寿嗣のもとへ入門する。
